Day 1, 12 July 2003, Seattle to Centralia

The roadbike fits happily in the back of Michelle's Saturn SC2 with plenty of room to spare.
The I-90 bridge to Mercer Island on our way into downtown Seattle
Mercer Island... the sun is shining and the weather looks good.
Here's my attempt at looking stoic. Michelle says I simply look constipated.
Crossing Lake Washington from Mercer Island on the I-90 bridge towards Seattle and the weather is starting to look a little gloomy.
Well... there's some clear sky to the north... but we'll be heading south.
Yep... definately not so sunny closer towards seattle.
Hmmm... low clouds should burn off... right?
It would seem that Columbia Tower is a little lost in the clouds today.
You have to admit that it does look rather pretty.
Wait... I see some blue skies over the starting point at UW.
David and his new (to him) Softride. And apparently these Honey Buckets require some special maneuvering to use.

I think I was trying to get a shot of Bellevue on the other side of the lake. Like the strap flying in the breeze? You try single-handed picture-taking while going 20MPH+ on a bike.
I bet you're anxious to see parts of the ride that don't include pictures of Lake Washington Blvd. now.
The first ministop at Seward Park (at the end of Lake Washington Blvd.) where you can see Bruce at the repair truck having the mechanics look at his front derailleur. He was having trouble with some rubbing.
The ultimate bikestand... another bike.
Apparently David's Softride had a rather ineffectual rear brake. We made an extended stop at the Kent REI ministop so he could effect repairs.
Santa Cruz (or was it Santana?) triplet with covered S&S connectors so one could break down the frame for better transport. Also, I was told it was possible to remove the middle section and convert the bike into a tandem. I wondered if one could add more middle sections and if so, how many.
This is definate bike-porn! Hot bike-on-bike action! Two titanium bikes (Bill's Eddie Merckx and Bruce's custom Davidson) hugging in the 69 position.

Wow... someone finally drafts me. Usually I'm useless at providing a good draft since I'm a small rider. Yes... I know the strap has made a reappearance.
I do however take full advantage of someone else's draft... in this case, Bruce. We got a nice paceline going by around Auburn.
